Thirukazhukundram Arulmigu Vedhagiriswarar Hill Temple is one of the famous top Shiva Temple in Tamil Nadu, Sacred to Worshippers of God Vedhagiriswarar (shiva) And Thiripurasundari Amman. It Lies 14 Kilometer to South east of the town of Chengalpattu And 17 Kilometer to the west of Mamallapuram in Chengalpattu District along the sea shore.

      The temple of VEDHAGIRISWARA, on the summit of the hill stands, as been already stated, on the Atarvana peak. It faces the east and contains one PRAKARAM. the Sanctum of this Thirukalukundram temple is Constructed from three huge blocks of stone, on which are carved,on the inside of several Devas. The Principal figure in the Thirukalukundram temple is a Svayambhu Lingam in the form of a cone or plantain flower, and this is shaethed by a stone cut cover. it is traditionally belived that once in twele years ther occurs a lightning stroke within or about the precincts of the Sanctum, which is interpreted to mean a visit of Indra to the Shrine. No damage was caused to any portion of the temple on their of these occasions. The lightning is said to hsave circuted thrice round the Lingam and then Disappeared in to ground! A hole at the spot where the lightning strokes occurred is pointed out to pilgrims.
